SUMMARY:Genome Engineering: CRISPR/Cas from Cells to Mice
DESCRIPTION:This interactive virtual course will provide training in genome editing and cell engineering in mammalian cells and mouse embryos using the highly efficient CRISPR/Cas9 system. The course will be split into two groups (mammalian cells OR mice) based on participants’ expertise. \nThrough theoretical and interactive sessions as well as remote demonstrations of some of the practical work in the lab\, the participants will learn to design CRISPR targets using bioinformatics tools\, generating gene knock-outs/knock-ins and target validation using the most current technologies.

SUMMARY:Epigenetic Information: Mechanisms\, Memory and Inheritance
DESCRIPTION:The field of epigenetics ranges from the phenomenological to detailed understanding of molecular mechanisms. This meeting focuses on diverse systems\, approaches\, and experimental innovations to discern the core principles of non-genetic mechanisms of inheritance. Topics will include the nature of epigenetic memory in the germ line and soma\, across cell division\, during development\, in response to the environment\, and in disease states. Diverse forms of epigenetic information will be considered.

SUMMARY:Nanoporous Materials and Their Applications (GRS): Order and Disorder in Functional Materials
DESCRIPTION:Nanoporous materials have a broad range of capabilities\, which have enabled their use in many industrially relevant processes. The utility of each material is driven by understanding and controlling the order and disorder in the system through theoretical understanding\, targeted synthesis\, and material engineering. This meeting focuses on building relationships between young scientists engaged in the design\, synthesis\, characterization\, and application of porous materials by providing an informal\, collaborative environment renowned for facilitating open discussion of unpublished\, cutting-edge research. Through crafted discussion sessions as well as casual poster sessions\, the GRS aims to accelerate the advancement of fundamental understanding and subsequent application of functional porous materials by facilitating the exchange of ideas in an open scientific forum.

SUMMARY:RNA Editing
DESCRIPTION:The GRC on RNA editing is the premier international meeting dedicated to nucleic acid modifications. Modifications to the common nucleosides found in DNA and RNA have been known for many years. However\, recent advances in analytical techniques for their detection\, along with a deeper understanding of the broad impact these modifications have on fundamental biological processes\, including human disease\, have caused a renaissance in their study.

SUMMARY:The 5th International Conference on Retinoids
DESCRIPTION:This is the only international conference that focuses on Vitamin A. In a spirit of cross-disciplinary education\, this meeting provides a “home base” for diverse scientists to review the latest concepts and information about retinoid biology and to assess new developments. \nThis virtual conference brings together researchers who study retinoids to address the broad spectrum of retinoid actions and application in a comprehensive and integrative manner. This SRC benefits new investigators through mentoring opportunities and career development sessions and provides an excellent venue for established investigators less familiar with the field\, allowing them to gain a better perspective on the increasingly complex biology of retinoids.

SUMMARY:Biotherapeutics and Vaccines Development Gordon Research Conference Patient-Centric\, Modality-Independent\, Data-Driven Biotherapeutic and Vaccine Developmen
DESCRIPTION:Biotherapeutics\, including protein and nucleic acid-based therapeutics\, cell and gene therapies\, and vaccines\, play an important role in maintaining and improving global public health which is particularly critical in the face of public health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic. They are also being developed to treat a wide variety of serious medical conditions including infectious diseases\, cancer\, auto-immune\, cardio-vascular\, gastro-intestinal and neurological disorders. The development of biotherapeutics and vaccines\, from candidate engineering and selection\, through expression\, purification\, formulation\, analytical characterization and finally delivery to patients\, is a highly inter-disciplinary scientific field.

SUMMARY:Large Animals Genetic Engineering Summit
DESCRIPTION:Remarkable developments in genome editing are revolutionizing medicine and agriculture as large animal genomes can\, for the first time\, be modified with sophistication and efficiency so far only achievable in the mouse. This technology allows for improvement in livestock production traits\, agricultural animal health and welfare\, and generation of more refined large animal models for biomedical applications. The summit will bring together reproductive biologists\, geneticists\, molecular biologists\, animal model developers\, preclinical and clinical researchers\, and representatives of federal research and regulatory agencies.

SUMMARY:Neurodegenerative Diseases: Genes\, Mechanisms and Therapeutics
DESCRIPTION:This conference aims to provide an integrated discussion of the latest advances in research and therapeutic development for neurodegenerative diseases. Our goals are to focus on the roles of genetic risk factors and their contributions to glial and neuronal health in the aging brain\, the biophysical properties of protein misfolding and the propagation of disease-specific proteinopathy\, the role of intracellular vesicular trafficking in disease pathogenesis\, new insights into the diverse role of glia\, innate immunity and microbiomes in neurodegeneration\, and novel therapeutic approaches that specifically target each of the novel biological areas. We anticipate that this conference will stimulate more discussions and promote new collaborations among scientists in the academia and industry that ultimately lead to new therapeutic targets to combat neurodegenerative diseases.

SUMMARY:Gene-Targeted Therapies: Early Diagnosis and Equitable Delivery
DESCRIPTION:Currently\, technological developments are offering the hope of new therapies for individuals with rare disease at a pace that has the potential for significantly challenging the existing infrastructure for efficient\, effective\, and equitable delivery. It is important therefore\, to plan and be prepared for these challenges. Changes need to be implemented to improve the process of getting more treatments to more patients\, more quickly. \nJune 3rd will focus on defining: \n\nWho are the individuals that could benefit from gene-targeted therapies – now and in the future? \n\n\nWhat novel approaches are needed to enable development of gene-targeted therapies for all genetic rare diseases – now and in the future? \n\n\nWhen is the optimal time to identify individuals who could benefit from gene-targeted therapies (e.g.\, newborn screening)
